Taisho Period Japanese Lacquer Document Box
A Taisho period Japanese lacquer document box. Characteristics include inlaid abalone shell, stylized flowers and leaves, as well as a plain black lacquer insert (possibly to hold documents in place to prevent curling). This is a fine example of a Japanese lacquer that has undergone slight restoration ensuring that it continues to be an impressive, decorative piece. Restoration included touch ups with paint that have been blended into the original surface. Please note, some of the abalone shell is fully missing from one of the two flowers, with portions of the second missing (see photos).
9.5" x 7.25". We are a working jewelry store and gallery and, therefore, are not available to answer questions on weekends. All of our pieces are guaranteed genuine-- no reproductions!
