This is an antique Japanese early Meiji era c. 1880 lidded food boxes known as a. Two boxes stack together with lid which are fitted to rest nicely onto each. Colored box has its original 20 coats of Japanese lacquer finish.Having been used lovingly and stored for over a century, with exception of sign of past use. Note some minor nicks to the original lacquer finish on the lid (see enlarged picture 10).
