Dating to the early 1900's, this is a very special antique Japanese monk's. Or scholars desk made of solid. This type of bench like tansu was known as a tsukue (desk) and it was a perfect size to act as a desk sitting on the tatami floor.This desk still has its original deep century + year old patina.
