This is an antique Japanese suzuribako calligraphy box set including ink stick (sumi) and ink stone (suzuri), suiteki (water dropper) and brushes dating back to the Edo era c. The lid has a fan design along with hollyhock leaves in raised gold and mother of pearl. The inner lid of the box as well as the interiors also have the hollyhock in gold and mother of pearl. The suzuribako box measures 9 1/2" by 9" by 2 (24.5 x 23 x 5 cm).
