Please read the whole description! On offer is a Japanese Meiji Period (1868 - 1912) Lacquered Gift Tray with gold Makie. It is approximately 40.5 cm long, 20.5 cm wide and 2.5 cm tall.
Very finely crafted, painted by Makie technique with superb details. Birds on a tree branch is the theme (very popular one).
The finish of this tray is truly magnificent. This is not a dinner tray but a gift one. This is where Japanese people put gifts in order to offer them in special occasions, like a wedding. It is considered bad manners to offer a gift without putting it in such a tray. Those trays are upscale from your normal dinner trays and a lot of effort is put to make them.
This is one such example from the Meiji period that the Japanese lacquerers are super famous for! Recently sourced directly from Japan. This Lacquered tray looks really impressive. A must have for any serious collection!
Condition Report: This tray is in good antique condition with some blemishes. The Makie pattern on the top rim part has faded and less than half of its pattern survives. There are several surface scratches some of which are quite pronounced. A couple of decent size chips, alongside on small crack on the back side (which is not pronounced on the main side). But that cannot be helped as this is an old lacquer item and most similarly dated items have such issues.None of these blemishes affect its functionality or integrity of this tray. As a matter of fact, it is in much better condition than most similarly dated items. Should you need any additional info, please do not hesitate to ask me any questions. I would be very happy to assist you. Please study the photos provided as they form part of the description. Should you need more photos I would be very happy to provide you with them.
