ALTHOUGH FRAGILE IN APPEARANCE, LACQUER HAS ALWAYS BEEN APPRECIATED FOR ITS QUALITIES OF DURABILITY AND STRENGTH. TO STOP THE WOVEN SILK CORD FROM SLIPPING, A SMALL TOGGLE WAS ATTACHED TO THE CORD KNOWN AS A "NETSUKE" WHICH MEANS "ROOT FOR FASTENING". THE BOTTOM OF THE CASE HAS SIGNATURE IN JAPANESE SCRIPT. THE CASE MEASURES 1 3/4" LONG (CLOSED) AND 1 1/2" WIDE.
THE CONDITION IS VERY GOOD WITH SOME MINOR LOSS TO THE GILT DECORATION (SEE PHOTOS). Have been in the Antiques business for over 30 years and try to describe our items as accurately as possible.
